Aluminum Roofing Frequently Asked Questions
Does Aluminum cost more than other roofing products?
Aluminum roofs installed over 30 years ago are still in good condition and will outlast the home. As a matter of fact, at today’s price for scrap aluminum, the salvage value of some of the first aluminum roofs we installed would exceed the original cost of the roof. Virtually all other roofs installed 30 years ago have been replaced one or two times. Many need to be replaced as we speak. Add the energy savings and the fact is: Aluminum roofing doesn’t cost, it pays.
What will hail do to an Aluminum Roof?
The Perfection Aluminum Shake is guaranteed never to leak because of hail any size! Perfection Country Manor Shakes have passed the UL 2218 Impact Resistance Test at its most severe level, Class IV. With this type of protection, homeowners with Perfection Metal Roof are able to receive insurance discounts.
Billy Ellis Aluminum Roofing Systems are warranted not leak due to hail perforation. In 1980, many of our roofs were put to the test and withstood SOFTBALL-SIZE HAIL. No Perforation. No Leaks.
What about lightning?
Lightning is more attracted to the height of a structure and not the material it is made of. Do not run under a tree when the threat of lightning exists.
Will an Aluminum Roof make my house hotter? Just the reverse is true. Aluminum roofs reflect 90% of the sun’s radiant heat and actually makes your home cooler. Our aluminum roof customers claim 25 to 30% savings on their entire electric bills after installing the aluminum roof on their home. Metal Roofing Systems by Billy Ellis are Energy Efficient.
What about noise?
Perfection aluminum roofing will make your home quieter. Perfection aluminum roofing is installed over your existing roof and decking. In most cases we install a foam backer. Attic space and insulation add sound barriers also. With all of the accumulated sound barriers between you and the outside, your home will be quieter.
Can I walk on the roof?
Yes, with the optional foam backer, the perfection aluminum roof is one of the rare roofs you can walk on without doing permanent damage. For steep roofs, wear soft-soled shoes and traction is better than other roofing products.
Composition and steel roofs lose important protective granules every time you step on them. Steel will dent or cave in, if you do not step on the battens. Walking on these roofs will also void the warranties. Wood shingles will split and clay or concrete tile will break when you step on them.
Do I need to remove my existing roof?
No, perfection aluminum roofing is recommended to be installed over most existing roofs. This means every penny you invest in the aluminum roof is invested in your home. Much of the cost of other products is in the cost of the removal and disposal of your existing roof.
Will an Aluminum Roof lower my insurance premiums?
The Perfection Aluminum Shake is a Class IV shingle, which has been known to bring up to 30% reduction on homeowners’ insurance premiums.
What about fire?
Billy Ellis leads the way in fire protection for your home. Many wildfires spread from home to home, consuming both possessions and life. Aluminum roofing gives you the best of both worlds. It resists fires from airborne sparks or bottle rockets from the exterior. Because of the low melting point of aluminum, a fire starting on the inside will be allowed to burn through the aluminum roof and vent the smoke and fire. Oftentimes, these fires start on the rooftops caused by wind-blown sparks and embers.
With a Perfection Country Manor Shake installed by Billy Ellis, you can rest easy knowing that your home and family are protected from deadly and destructive flames by non-combustible roofing materials.
Will an Aluminum Roof affect the resale value of my home?
Perfection Country Manor Shake will add to the resale value of your home, but not all new roofs will; some can actually hurt the resale value. This may sound frivolous, but the primary reason a roof adds resale value to your home is if it is more attractive. Realtors call it curb appeal. Landscaping and roofing are the two most dominating features of your home. If you don’t stop the car, you don’t sell the house, no matter what you’ve done on the inside.
HI-R Heat Barrier Coating
Billy Ellis Metal Roofs are coated with HI-R heat reflective paint, which helps to create a cooler, more energy-efficient home due to the special reflective pigments embedded in the finish. The complex chemical structure of these pigments reflects away the infrared portion of the sun’s rays most responsible for heat buildup. So, while maintaining color consistency and fade protection, HI-R Heat Barrier Technology provides all the advantages of greater reflectance, without sacrificing color choice.
